TwitterLit is a Twitter account that uses a daily game to test users’ literary knowledge and consequently redirect them to an affiliate site. TwitterLit is actually an affiliate of Amazon.com. It works by providing the first few lines of a book, along with an affiliate link to Amazon.

The site provides no author or book title information, challenging Twitter users to guess the book or author. Once the game’s participants guess the title of the book, they click on the accompanying link to check the answer.

This is a novel tactic to drive higher levels of traffic to the affiliate site, as the game format provides an inbuilt incentive, and makes effective use of Twitter by tapping into the Twitter user base.

This is a good example of how a company has found a way of generating revenue from micro-blogging. What’s good about this is that the ads have a contextual relevance to the users and the end product. But also the mechanism will always remain fresh.

‘twhirl is a desktop client for the Twitter microblogging platform’

To me twhirl makes Twitter more interesting as the application allows you to microblog through an application. For microblogging to work it needs to be through Twitterberry or mobile not through a standard web broswer.
